This three-hour overview describes how viewing addictive and compulsive behaviors through an AIP lens can inform the treatment planning process.  It also addresses common resourcing needs and how to address treatment planning barriers for individuals who struggle with both substance use disorders and behavioral addictions.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the factors that increase vulnerability to substance use disorders and behavioral addictions.
  2. Describe at least two Phase 2 resourcing options for individuals with histories of addiction.
  3. Identify the treatment planning options for clients who struggle with addiction.
  4. Explain how to use EMDR Therapy with persons who struggle with substance use disorders and behavioral addictions.

Hope Payson

LCSW, LADC

is a clinical social worker and licensed addiction counselor. Among her areas of expertise are working with clients who have histories of intergenerational trauma, incarceration, and financial hardship. She is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and Trainer with over 30 years of experience as a clinician in a variety of settings. She currently maintains a private practice while also presenting at conferences on topics ranging from EMDR, complex trauma, addiction, and ways to promote both individual and systemic recovery. Hope also assists private and non-profit organizations in creating trauma informed systems of care. She is the Producer of the documentary “Uprooting Addiction: Healing From the Ground Up” and authored a chapter of the book “EMDR and Group Therapy: Emerging Principals and Protocols to Treat Trauma and Beyond”.

Approvals:  3  hours of CE credit provided by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and 3 hours of credit from EMDRIA (#15013-DL26).

Requirements to obtain CE:  Watch entire webinar recording; complete course evaluation & posttest. 

Posttest: Obtain an 80% minimum score. You can retake the test as needed to achieve a qualifying score.

Evaluation: At the completion of the webinar a course evaluation will be available for completion.

Certificate award process:  A certificate of completion will be provided by EMDR of the Rockies. The certificate will be available for immediate download.
