Early intervention following a recent critical incident is vital in EMDR to decrease the symptoms of Acute Stress Disorder and to mitigate PTSD. Early intervention also allows for adaptive information processing and memory consolidation, while reducing association to past traumatic events and increasing effective integration of the experience into the client’s existing mental model of the world. This training will review six recent event protocols that can be used in the 8 phases of EMDR, and will provide clinicians with an overview of how to implement these protocols into practice with a variety of case examples.

This training, led by Emmie Perry, MA, LMFT, is appropriate for EMDR-trained clinicians who are ready to expand their toolbox of protocols for individual clients and groups in a variety of environments after a recent traumatic event.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify when is appropriate to implement a recent event protocol
  2. Identify who can benefit from utilizing a recent event protocol
  3. Define why early intervention is important for individuals and groups following a recent critical incident
  4. Recognize the difference between the Standard Protocol and the various recent event protocols
  5. Distinguish between the six recent event protocols, including four protocols for individuals and 2 protocols for groups
  6. Define how to implement the recent event protocols in the 8 phases of EMDR with a variety of case examples for both individual and group clients in different environments
